Home for special children
Dominic Savio Boys Home
6-16 years of age
This home for the children of the leprosy patients and beggars began in 1978. In the same year around 60 children of the leprosy patients were accommodated in the boarding and looked after. Only in July 7th 1984 the new boarding, Dominic Savio Boys’ Home was opened for the boys by the encouragement given by late Mrs. Olive Allerton from Australia. It is a home where all the facilities are given to the Children for an all round formation. They attend Don Bosco Schools, which is situated close to the Home. They are given special tuition to cope up with their studies. Not having the proper motivation, becomes a problem for these children to apply seriously and continue their academic studies.
The Salesians look after these boys and try to motivate and empower them to become better. At present there are 170 boys. Some boys who are not able to continue their academic studies are recommended to follow non-formal technical trades.

In some cases the girls find It hard to continue their academic studies. These Girls are given opportunity to learn tailoring, typing and Embroidery. The Salesian Sisters look after these girls. They are Given special tuition and encouraged to study not only till Xth Std. but even to complete their Higher secondary.
Mantovani Education project
This programme was started to help economically poor children to pay for their studies. This programme was initiated in 1969. Individually children are helped with sponsorship programmes.
They are given clothes, tuition fees and books. The children who benefit from this project are the children of the poor slum dwellers. This project is carried out by the Salesians. At present there are about 500 children who come under this scheme.
Transit Schools:
This became an urgent need since the children either are stopped by the parents themselves for their personal need, discouraged from schooling or drop off from schooling not having inclination or encouragement to study, from the elders. Hence, since the year 2002, such children from the slums are sought by our field workers, brought to the Centre to have regular coaching by teachers, fed, encouraged to study. They are prepared well for the different classes to be inserted back in different schools at the beginning of the new scholastic year and followed up. This our efforts have doubly paid. The parents and children above all are very happy, grateful and appreciative. We thank God for having given us this opportunity to serve these needy children.
