Don Bosco Beatitudes
Don Bosco High School
On June 24, 1965 the Don Bosco Elementary School was started. The medium of instruction is Tamil, which is the regional language.
In course of time this primary school was upgraded to a middle and then High School. Presently there are about 2000 children, boys and girls attending these Schools. Most of the students are hailing from the numerous slums which abound in this locality.
The children of the leprosy patients and beggars staying in our special Homes also attend these Schools. Salesian Sisters take good care of them, assume the responsibility of the administration and imparting the best of education and discipline. It is a Co-ed school for the children between the age of 6 to 15.
Don Bosco Primary School
From June 2002 the Elementary school from Ist std. to Vth std – with a strength of 1100 children, function separately in a new block. This has brought about greater facilities to improve discipline and a superior standard in teaching and imparting knowledge to the little ones.
Night Study Centers
It was started in 1968. The centre conducts six Night Study Centers in different locations of the slums in and around Vyasarpady. These study Centres function for the benefit of the slum dwellers’ children. These children do not have the facility to study at home. Hence each Center is provided with class rooms and teachers to help them out in difficult subjects. These are supervised study centers to help the slum children to cope up with their studies. At present there are 540 children who benefit from these Centers. And most of these children are given monetary help for tuition fees, text books and note books, stationary and uniforms through Sponsorship programmes. The Salesians are looking after this Project.
